4 Tips to de-stress your move.
Moving is daunting and filled with stressful moments. The logistics of scheduling, packing, loading, and unloading while holding your breath that nothing has been damaged in the process will have you on the edge of insanity.
I have been through this process 17 times and have learned a thing or two. So here are my moving tips. As an experienced redesigner there are some simple rules to follow that will transform this arduous process into something bearable.
- Keep copious notes. Have the contact information of all the players handy; realtor, movers, utility companies and all the family & friends you recruited to help.
- Have the right tools. Have boxes in various sizes, loads of tape with a dispenser, handheld shrink wrap, a wide tip marker along with Ziploc baggies.
- Categorize your packing. Either by room or by type, do your best to keep like items together. Use your towels and linens as packing material.
- Mark your boxes clearly. You will be grateful on move in day.
My moving tips start with being organized to keep your sanity. Look at packing as an opportunity to weed out some dated items. Focus on the redesign in the new place. Fill gaps in boxes to avoid shifting. Use the stretch wrap in lieu of tape to avoid the sticky residue. Use baggies for storing bolts, screws, nails and such that will be needed for reassembly and be sure to secure them to the applicable item.
